Shrimps Overload

Here are the different recipe I cooked with shrimp. I just made up the peas and shrimp though.

Milo - Energy Drink

This is one of the popular morning drink in the Philippines. Kids love to drink Milo in the morning instead of Milk and adults also drinks Milo instead of Coffee. Below is the information about this drink that I read online.

Milo is a chocolate and malt powder which is mixed with hot or cold milk to produce a beverage which is popular in many parts of the world. It is best taken in milk clumps. Produced by Nestlé, and was originally developed by Thomas Mayne in Sydney, Australia in 1934. It is marketed and sold in many countries around the world.

Milo is supposedly high in energy, because the drink has 1,760 kJ in every 100 g of the drink. It is also for this reason, marketed as the "Energy Food Drink". It is also supposed to have a low Glycemic Index (GI), that is, "33 made with whole milk, 36 made with reduced fat milk". This allows the energy in Milo to be released slowly.

The Milo website states that the drink is high in calcium, iron and the vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12. It also has Actigen-E that releases the energy stored in a person's body. Artcle source - Wikipedia

Apple Cake and Fruits

My husband bought wholesale of Clementine and Apples at Costco. He also picked up some banana at Giant Eagle. I do not want all these apples go to waste so, I baked Apple cake. I got this recipe from my sister-in-law during our trip to Chicago. My Apple cake turned out alright but not as moist as my sister-in-law's apple cake.

Apple Cake

4 c. apples, peeled and diced
2 eggs
2 c sugar (use 1/2 brown, 1/2 white)
2 1/2 c. flour (sift, then measure)
2 tsp soda
3/4 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 c. vegetables oil
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. raisins
1c. chocolate bits (leave this out)

Procedure:
~ Beat the eggs well and pour over the diced apples.
~ Sift together in a large bowl the sugar, flour, soda, salt and cinnamon.
~ Add the vegetables oil to dry ingredients, mixing well.
~ Stir in the apple and egg mixture. Add nuts, raisins and chocolate bits. Batter will be thick. Mix thoroughly, then pour into well greased "9x13" pan, bundtpan or tube pan.

Chaching!!! Tadaa!

The passionate the beer itself is something to be proud of. From the first days in Jim's kitchen through today, the mission at Samuel Adams hasn't wavered or compromised, and still focused on making the best beer possible and more to come.

Argentina Corned Beef

Corned beef in can is one of the easy to prepare food in the Philippines. Cut some onions, garlic and sauteed it in a pan. This dish is perfect with hot rice or even for Pandesal bread. My picky eater love Argentina brand of corned beef as it is juicer compared to other corned beef and the beef itself have bigger texture.

Cajun Chicken

It was my first time to try Cajun Chicken. It was good but the husband preferred the regular fried Chicken that is marinated with soy sauce and vinegar and with some spices like garlic and onion that gives great flavor. Fried chicken always good with mashed potato.

Grilling Out

I miss those times that almost everyday during the summer after we moved in to this place, we always grilling out some hamburger topped with fresh lettuce and tomato. Grilling our is one of the great thing and advantages if you live in a place where there is a backyard. It brings fun family bonding that you can do when the weather is fine. You can slice some pineapple and seedless water mellon for refreshing dessert.

French Fries with Cheese

French fries is the most common appetizing food and it always part of the combo when you order some burger. Try the fries with cheese, it's so cheesy, and if you sprinkled some bacon on top with cheese on to. Oh that is mouth watering.

Fruits

Ir's not seasons for grapes yet you can find this fruits at the fruits aisle in your nearest grocery all year round and so is banana. Banana is rich in potassium and useful to our health. So, make sure you have good amount of fruits everyday.

Shrimp Salad

Do you know how much a tray of this shrimp salad at Costco? Well, it was roughly $14. I cannot believed how expensive sea foods in this country. Good thing I love shrimp and I never wasted a bit of this food. My husband is very picky when it comes to sea foods. This salad really taste great and fresh but it is too expensive.

Sweet and Sour Pork

My first attempt to make a sweet and sour pork. Hubby and Jake prefers chicken so I ended up eating all of this after hubby digged and gobbled all the pork.
My sister forwarded this recipe through email a long time ago. All you need is;

1/2 kl pork loin
1 small can pineapple chunks
1 large onion, quartered
1 red & 1 green bell peppers, sliced into strips. ( I didn't have green bell peppers, I used what's in our fridge)

3 tbsp ketchup

Instruction:

~ Dissolve the remaining 2 tbsp of cornstarch on 1/2 cup of pork stock -set aside
~ Saute garlic and onions on oil, then add the bell peppers, pineapple chunks(including the syrup), ketchup, sugar, 1/2 tsp salt and dissolved cornstarch. Stir until sauce thickens.
~ Pour over fried pork then serve with rice.

Breaded Pork and Vegies

We seldom have meals like this (photo above) which is corn in the cob and vegetables. Husband doesn't love broccoli but he started to like it when he had been eating a lot of it after he had surgery.

Calamari

Calamari is also known as Fried squid or squid which is related to Italian that has become a culinary name for Mediterranean dishes involving squid. Thus, Calamari is a dish in Mediterranean cuisine. It consists of batter-coated, deep fried squid, fried for less than two minutes to prevent toughness. It is served plain, with salt and lemon on the side.

You can make your own calamari, all you need are egg whites, lime juice or 5 pieces of lemon for the marinade mix and deep fry it. I also bought seafood tartar zest which is perfect dipping sauce. My husband doesn't eat seafood but when he first tried the calamari he loved it. He can't stop eating, he only save four pieces of calamares for me. I'm planning to make a trip again in that Korean store to buy more squid.

Pork Adobo

I do not cook pork Adobo that much because most of the pork we have around here are pork chop. I want the pork that has fats and skin but the husband can't find that kind of pork. He said it has to be bought in a butcher's place. One time I saw some fat in the big pork chops we had and I decided to make pork adobo and put broiled eggs in it. Adobo is a Filipino cuisine marinated in soy sauce, vinegar, onions, garlic and added with bay leaf to add some smell.

Filipino Way Party

Who wouldn't drool for this huh! Yeah, in the Philippines if there's a party lechon (whole roast pig) is always present. This was taken when my sister got engaged. Her fiancé' Kelly (her husband now) was so fascinated with how we celebrate traditional Filipino way. Our foods and preparations are way different from the American party. Filipino loves food and gatherings with families, relatives and friends no matter how huge the clan is there’s always food for everybody including the neighbors and perhaps the whole block in your street.

WW-Cake of Snow

I don't like freezing weather. Thus, I am still lucky indeed to have just few inches of snow in our area. Here is the sample of snow that looked like a cake of snow at our backyard. Do you know that is some place they have more snow in their area? Yes, that is true and if you watch the news everyday you will how big the the snow in other places. What can we do, snow is part of the winter season. Just keep shoveling your front yard and put some salt in your drive way for safety measures. Drive slow on slippery and icy roads to avoid accident.

Gyro

Have you eaten a Gyro before?
My first time I had Gyro Platter, I thought it was really good. If you are into greek food, you should try Gyro. It is a healthy food and they are not that expensive.

Gyros or gyro is a Greek dish, consisting of meat, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce, and is served with pita bread. Gyros may also refer to the sandwich, which consists of the same ingredients.

Gyro Sandwiches

Spinach Omelet

Have you had spinach omelet before? I love spinach and eggs. I was watching Paula Deen at Food Network and she made some omelet added with different types of ingredients including spinach. I thought of trying it out and it really taste great.

Sweet and Sour Shrimp

Another meal I tried from our favorite Chinese restaurant where we always ordered out foods for delivery. I was disappointed, I have different perception with the sweet and sour they served. Well, worth a try.

Healthy Snacks

Cheese, Salami and cracker makes a good snacks. We actually bought this at Giant Eagle.

Chinese Food - Beef Broccoli

America love Chinese food. If you look around you will see Chinese restaurant every where. You can also make a call for delivery if you feel lazy to drive to your nearest Chinese restaurant. Anyway, there is one Chinese restaurant nearby our place. We tried it one time to eat out there to see if we were going to like the food and the price. Well, the it price was somewhat expensive but the food was really good. Do not ask me about the crew because I saw only one and she was not that friendly. I ordered a beef broccoli and husband ordered his all time favorite General t'so chicken.
